Role of Governors
Our Full Governing Body currently comprises twelve Governors, of which there are seven Foundation Governors, two Parent-elected Governors, one Staff Governor, plus the Headteacher and one Local Authority Governor. Together we are responsible for financial management, employment of staff and Admissions. We have a monitoring role and hold the school’s Senior Leadership to account, while supporting them in their work. Above all, we are entrusted with upholding the Catholicity and Gospel values at the heart of any Catholic school.
Organisation
The Full Governing Body meets four times a year, and on other occasions as required. In addition, there are two working committees, with specific functions, each of which also meets at least three times a year. These are:
Admissions Committee Chair – Paul Saxby
This group is responsible for administering the Admissions process, policy and appeals, and making decisions about pupil applications.
Finance and Resources Chair – Nabil Zakher
This Committee is primarily responsible for finance, staffing and premises.
Teaching and Learning Committee Chair - Paul Saxby

Our monitoring programme is updated annually, but each of us undertakes to liaise with relevant staff and report on specific areas of focus.

Availability
Governors are available to discuss matters concerning general school issues. Approach should be made to the Chair of Governors via the school office. Governors are also present at a number of school meetings and events during the year. Matters relating to a particular pupil should be referred to the child’s teacher in the first instance, and then to the Headteacher if necessary.
We are all volunteers who are committed to ensuring the best possible education for our pupils at St Mary Magdalene’s. We try to get fully involved in the life of the school, where we feel that our community is built on a dynamic partnership between home, school and parish.
