Religious Education
Mission Statement
Let your Light Shine
God made each one of us – we are all His unique disciples and His love is the love we share. We share our God given gifts and talents. We RESPECT each other’s differences and welcome DIVERSITY, celebrating and sharing our God given gifts and talents. We show COMPASSION and friendship for others in school, at home, in our local community and for our global family. We have the COURAGE and hope to face any challenges and follow our dreams. We are given the FREEDOM to make the most of every learning experience we have and be the very best we can be. We welcome the RESPONSIBILITY of being stewards of God’s wonderful gift of creation and caring for our common home. We place Jesus at the centre of all we do, growing in our Faith through our heads, hearts and hands.

Religious Education at St Mary Magdalene Catholic Primary School is the foundation of the whole educational process. The beliefs and values studied in Catholic religious education inspire and draw together every aspect of the life of our school. We aim to embrace a positive partnership between the home, school and parish and offer our community the opportunity to deepen its relationship with God the Father, through his Son, Jesus, with guidance of the Holy Spirit, nurtured through prayer, worship and knowledge of scripture.
At St Mary Magdalene we aim to help all children understand that they are uniquely created and loved by God and are part of a community, where each member is valued and respected. All children will be helped to appreciate the richness and diversity of God’s wider world and understand what Christians believe and do.
We use the Come and See programme of Religious Education (Year 3 – Year 4) and the new RED planning (Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 5 and Year 6). In accordance with the guidelines from the Bishops' Conference, all children at St Mary Magdalene receive 10% of Religious Education teaching each week. This equates to 2 ½ hours in KS2 and 2 ¼ hours in Foundation Stage and KS1, distributed appropriately across the week. This time does not include collective worship, hymn practice, assemblies or other religious celebrations. Our RE resources offers the opportunity to search, to explore, to discover, and to respond; this is part of what it is to be human. Religious education is the core subject which is central to the life of our school.
