Liturgical Calendar
At St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Primary School, the liturgical calendar is at the heart of our faith journey. It guides us through the seasons and celebrations of the Church, helping our children to grow in their understanding of God’s love and their place within the Catholic community. Through Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Ordinary Time, pupils encounter Scripture, prayer and worship in a way that brings the Gospel to life and helps them understand how faith can shape everyday actions.
Inspired by our school Mission Statement and Vision, the liturgical calendar provides opportunities for every child to recognise and share the gifts God has given them. As pupils learn about the lives of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, the saints and key events of the Church year, they are encouraged to live as disciples of Christ, showing kindness, compassion, service and courage in all that they do. Our patron saint, St. Mary Magdalene, is a powerful example of faith, hope and witness. As the first person entrusted with sharing the news of the Resurrection, she reminds us that each of us is called to let the light of Christ shine through our words and actions.
The liturgical year enriches every aspect of school life. It shapes our prayer and worship, inspires acts of charity and service, and helps children make meaningful connections between what they learn in Religious Education and how they live their faith each day. Through daily prayer, child-led worship, Masses, feast day celebrations and opportunities for reflection, pupils develop a deeper relationship with God and an appreciation of the traditions and beauty of the Catholic faith.
By following the liturgical calendar, we help our children grow as confident, compassionate and faith-filled individuals who are ready to share their gifts with others and truly "Let Their Light Shine" in the example of St. Mary Magdalene.
