Newsletter - 19.09.25

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the new academic year 2025–26.

The children have made a fantastic start to the year! Our new Reception pupils have settled in particularly well, as have the rest of the children - it has been lovely to see such enthusiasm across the school.

This week, our Year 6 pupils enjoyed their residential trip to PGL and had a wonderful time. A big thank you to all the staff who supported and looked after the children during their stay.

Looking ahead, Grandparents' Liturgies will take place from Monday 6 October onwards. The dates have been shared with parents and carers, however, please refer to the school calendar for a helpful reminder.

Polite reminder, the Ten:Ten parent newsletters can now be accessed via the Catholic Life and Mission tab on our website.

Wishing all our children and families a great weekend.

Mr McKeever

Learning from across the school

Reception

Reception Class have had a wonderful time getting to know our new friends.

The children have been learning to be good listeners and super speakers and have had lots of opportunities to explore our classroom and the outside area.

The class have started to learn our first phonics sounds and we are looking forward to even more fun learning in the coming weeks.

Reception - 19.09.25

Year 1

In Year 1, the children have had a lot of fun exploring the classroom and outside area and using the resources to extend with our learning.

In maths, Year 1 have started their learning all about numbers between 0 and 10. We know that when we count a large group of objects, we must not skip any objects or numbers to be as accurate as possible. As part of our maths learning, we have been exploring different maths resources and learning how we can use them to help us.

We have been learning about the Creation Story in RE. To help us remember the story, we decorated the numbers to represent each of the days. We worked really carefully when we did this.

In computing, the children have been learning about what the word ‘technology’ means. We learnt that technology is anything made by humans to help us. We worked together to sort the pictures into things that are/aren’t examples of technology.

Year 1 - 19.09.25

Year 2

For our RE topic of Creation and Covenant, the children in Year 2 explored the layout of the Bible and heard the story of Noah and the Ark. The children were then able to retell it using Godly play, play dough and story boards and then say why God sent the flood and the meaning of the rainbow.

In art, the children started a new topic of drawing (understanding tone and texture) and have had fun exploring and using a range of materials. They then created a series of marks with chalk, oil pastels and charcoal in their sketching books.

We have been on a musical safari this week, learning how to clap back rhythms to represent the animals that we met. The children worked hard to recognise the sounds of each animal and to improve their timing when performing untuned instruments and clapping patterns.

Year 2 have been immersed in the world of fairy tales in English and have been able to retell events verbally and through pictures to tell the story of Jim and the beanstalk. They will then be creating a sequel to the story.

Year 2 - 19.09.25

Year 3

Year 3 have worked incredibly well in the past two weeks, demonstrating an excellent attitude for learning.

In maths, the class have been learning about place value, using resources such as base 10 to develop their understanding of numbers up to 1000.

In English, our class books is Leon and the Place Between, and the children have been learning about modal verbs, nouns, and expanded noun phrases using abstract nouns.

In science, Year 3 have been learning about Animals: Movement and Nutrition with a focus on the skeletal system to begin the term.

Our topic in RE is Creation and Covenant, where the class have been learning about Genesis and the story of Creation.

They have also been designing products in DT, identifying the user and filling out a design criteria.

Year 3 - 19.09.25

Year 4

Year 4 have had a fantastic start to the new school year and are already settled into their new classroom!

Our topic for this term centres around Food and Digestion, which the children have been learning about across all subjects. In science, they have been exploring the human digestive system, and particularly enjoyed watching Miss Mitchell get messy during a disgusting experiment.

In English, the children have enjoyed reading and writing about the book ‘Amy Gets Eaten’, which follows the life of Amy the Sweetcorn through the digestive system. They have then begun writing their own stories based on the book.

In DT and geography, the class have been exploring where our food comes from and have even baked their own biscuits based on a recipe. Next week, they will begin to create their own recipes!

Finally, we have started our new RE unit all about the life of Abraham. The children have enjoyed exploring this story in many different ways, including bringing the story to life with models and drawings.

Year 4 - 19.09.25

Year 5

Year 5 have had a great, busy start to the year!

In science, the children have been learning all about the Solar System. We talked about what we already knew, explored how the planets move and stay in orbit, and even made our own model to show where the planets sit. We then thought about what worked well with our model and what we could do to make it even better next time.

In maths, we have been using place value charts to make numbers up to 100,000. We’ve enjoyed comparing and ordering them and explaining how we know using mathematical language.

In PE, we got stuck into tag rugby. We worked on our agility and ball skills, practised passing to teammates, and learned how important teamwork and good communication are when playing together.

Year 5 - 19.09.25

Year 6

Well done to our Year 6 children who embarked on their PGL residential this week. They challenged themselves, looked out for one another and met every activity with lots of enthusiasm. Their resilience, teamwork, and exemplary behaviour made us proud - they were excellent ambassadors for the school.

A special thank you to Connie, who despite an injury, supported her peers from the sidelines, and took on official photographer duties at PGL!
