Spiritual Council
At St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Primary School, our Spiritual Council plays a central role in promoting and developing the Catholic Life and Mission of our school. Made up of representatives from Years 1 to 6, the council works closely with staff, governors, parish representatives and the wider school community to ensure that Christ remains at the heart of all we do.
The Spiritual Council provides meaningful opportunities for pupils to live out their faith through leadership, service and participation. Members help to plan, lead and evaluate prayer and liturgy, contribute to charitable initiatives, support key liturgical celebrations and gather pupil voice to help shape school improvement priorities. They encourage their peers to put faith into action through the values of compassion, respect, courage, responsibility, diversity and freedom.
A significant achievement of the Spiritual Council was leading the consultation and development of our new Mission Statement. Working alongside pupils, staff, parents and governors, council members reflected on what makes St. Mary Magdalene special and helped create a mission that truly reflects the shared vision and aspirations of our community.
Through their leadership, the Spiritual Council helps ensure that every pupil has a voice and is encouraged to participate fully in the spiritual life of the school. Their work reflects our vision, 'Let Your Light Shine', empowering pupils to use their God-given gifts and talents in the service of others and the wider community.
The work of the Spiritual Council exemplifies the pupil leadership, participation and ownership that are characteristic of an outstanding Catholic school. By actively contributing to prayer, liturgy, charitable outreach and the development of the school's mission, pupils demonstrate a deep understanding of their role as disciples of Jesus and make a significant contribution to the Catholic Life and Mission of St. Mary Magdalene.
Impact of Our Spiritual Council
Our Spiritual Council plays a central role in the Catholic Life and Mission of our school. Members help to shape school improvement by gathering pupil voice, leading prayer and liturgy, evaluating worship and promoting Catholic Social Teaching.
Each year, members attend a Formation Day at St. Richard's Catholic College. Through this experience, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to become effective leaders of faith within our school community. As a result, they return to school ready to support charitable initiatives, lead prayer, evaluate worship and help others live out our mission, "Let Your Light Shine".
