St. Mary Magdalene

St. Mary Magdalene is a significant figure in the Catholic faith, known for her deep devotion, courage and witness to Jesus Christ.

St. Mary Magdalene was healed by Jesus and became one of his faithful disciples, accompanying and supporting him during his ministry. She remained faithful to Jesus during his crucifixion and burial and returned to the tomb on Easter morning.

According to John’s Gospel, the risen Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene and entrusted her with the joyful mission of telling the disciples, “I have seen the Lord.” For this reason, the Church honours her as the “Apostle of the Apostles.”

Her life inspires us to remain faithful to Christ, to receive his healing love and to share the hope of the Resurrection courageously with others.

The Catholic values exemplified by St. Mary Magdalene:

  1. Faithfulness – She remained devoted to Jesus, accompanied him during his ministry and remained present during his crucifixion and burial.
  2. Courage – She followed Jesus faithfully, including during times of danger, sorrow and uncertainty.
  3. Witness and Evangelisation – She encountered the risen Christ and shared the joyful news of the Resurrection with the disciples, becoming the “Apostle of the Apostles.”
  4. Healing and Transformation – She experienced the healing love of Jesus and responded by becoming his faithful disciple.
  5. Love and Service – She supported Jesus and his disciples and demonstrated her love through faithful and practical service.

In essence, St. Mary Magdalene exemplifies faith, courage, devotion, healing, service and courageous witness. Her life shows us how an encounter with Christ can transform us and inspire us to share his love with others.

St. Mary Magdalene – Our Patron Saint

At St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Primary School, we draw inspiration from the life and example of our patron saint. St Mary Magdalene demonstrated unwavering faith, courageous witness and deep love for Jesus Christ. Her healing and transformation through Christ resonate with our mission to nurture every child and encourage them to “Let Your Light Shine.”

Our school community is founded upon the Gospel values of Compassion, Diversity, Respect, Courage, Responsibility and Freedom. These values are integral to our curriculum and daily life. We place Jesus at the centre of all we do, guiding our pupils to grow in faith through their heads, hearts and hands.

Just as St. Mary Magdalene faithfully proclaimed the good news of the Resurrection, we encourage our pupils to live out their faith boldly and compassionately. We want them to face challenges with courage, treat others with dignity and respect, serve those in need and share the light and hope of Christ through their words and actions.

This commitment to faith, courage, compassion and service is central to our school’s Catholic identity and mission. Inspired by St. Mary Magdalene, we seek to equip every child to live a life of purpose, discipleship and courageous witness.
